Rotate & Flip Video Online
Drop a file here
Click to browse, or paste a file from the clipboard.
Choose fileRotating turns the picture 90° or 180°; flipping mirrors it. Videozify does both in your browser and writes an MP4 that plays the right way up everywhere, including players that ignore rotation metadata.
How to use rotate video
- Drop the sideways or mirrored video onto the box above.
- Choose a rotation or a flip.
- Press Apply and wait for the progress bar.
- Preview the result and download it.
How rotate video works
Phones store orientation as a rotation flag. Some players and upload forms ignore that flag, so the clip shows sideways. Re-encoding with the rotation baked into the pixels fixes it for every player.
Front-camera footage is often mirrored, which makes text read backwards. A horizontal flip puts it the right way round.
The audio stream is copied unchanged, so only the picture is re-encoded.
Rotation is applied with FFmpeg's transpose filter for 90° turns and hflip or vflip for mirrors, the same filters professional tools use. The picture is re-encoded once with H.264 so every player shows it upright.
Everything runs on your device. See also Crop video.

Rotating turns the picture 90° or 180°; flipping mirrors it.
Settings explained
90° clockwise fixes a clip recorded with the phone turned left; counter-clockwise fixes the opposite. Use 180° for upside-down footage.
Mirror (horizontal flip) is the one for selfie videos with backwards text.
When to rotate, flip or do nothing
If a clip plays the right way in your phone's gallery but sideways on a laptop or in an upload form, the file carries a rotation flag that the second player ignores. Rotating here writes upright pixels so every player agrees.
If a clip is sideways everywhere, it was recorded with orientation lock on. Pick the direction that makes the horizon level: 90° clockwise if the top of the picture is pointing left, counter-clockwise if it points right.
Mirroring is only needed when text or logos read backwards, which happens with some webcams and front cameras. Faces look slightly different mirrored, so leave selfie clips alone unless text is visible.
Rotating a landscape clip by 90° produces a portrait video with the width and height swapped. If you then need a different shape, run the result through the crop tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my video sideways only on some apps?
- The file has a rotation flag that some apps ignore. Rotating here bakes the rotation into the pixels.
Does rotating lose quality?
- The picture is re-encoded once at CRF 23; the audio is copied untouched.
What is the difference between flip and rotate?
- Rotate turns the frame; flip mirrors it like a reflection.
Can I rotate and crop?
- Yes: rotate first, then open the crop tool with the result.
Is the file uploaded?
- No, rotation runs on your device.
Is there a size limit?
- Only your browser's memory; up to about 1.5 GB works on most laptops.
Can I rotate by 45 degrees?
- No, only 90° steps and flips; arbitrary angles would need cropping or borders.
Does rotating remove the rotation flag?
- Yes, the output is written upright with no rotation metadata.
Will rotating fix a video that's upside down on my TV?
- Yes. Choose 180° so the picture itself is upright and the TV doesn't need to read a rotation flag.
