Guide
TikTok video size, dimensions and specs
TikTok videos should be 1080×1920 pixels (9:16 vertical), MP4 or MOV with H.264, at 30 or 60 fps. Keep text and faces out of the bottom 20% and the right edge, where TikTok places captions and buttons. Landscape and square videos are accepted but appear with bars, so crop to 9:16 for full-screen impact.
Need to reshape a clip? Crop video converts landscape to 9:16 in your browser, and burn subtitles adds captions that stay visible for sound-off viewers.
How to make a video TikTok-ready with Videozify
- Open Crop video and drop in your clip.
- Choose 9:16. Landscape footage is cropped from the centre to fill the vertical frame.
- If the clip is larger than 1080×1920, run it through Resize video at 1080p.
- Optionally trim it to the strongest seconds with the video trimmer. Shorter clips tend to hold viewers to the end.
- Add burned-in captions with Auto subtitles and Burn subtitles if your video has speech.
- Download the MP4 and upload it in the TikTok app or on tiktok.com.

Safe zones: where not to put text
TikTok overlays the username, caption, audio label and progress bar along the bottom, and the like, comment, share and profile buttons down the right side. On a 1080×1920 frame, keep important text and faces inside roughly the central 900×1400 pixels: about 120 pixels in from the left, 180 from the right, 250 from the top and 400 from the bottom.
Burned-in captions should sit a little higher than the very bottom, around the lower third, so the TikTok caption doesn't cover them.
Landscape footage on TikTok
A 16:9 clip uploaded as-is appears as a thin band in the middle of the screen. That can work for cinematic shots, but most creators crop to 9:16. A centre crop from 1920×1080 gives 608×1080, which is then scaled up. That's fine on a phone, but for best sharpness shoot 4K landscape if you plan to crop, so the vertical slice still has full detail.
Frame rate and quality
TikTok supports 60 fps playback for some uploads, which helps fast motion like dance and sport. For talking-head and tutorial content, 30 fps looks the same and uploads faster. Upload at a high bitrate (10–15 Mbps at 1080p) because TikTok compresses on upload. In the app, turning on "Upload HD" in the post settings keeps more detail.
Native editing options
TikTok's in-app editor can trim, add text, auto captions and effects, and that's often the fastest path for content made in the app. The downside is that edits and captions are locked to TikTok, so you can't reuse the same file on Reels or Shorts without TikTok's watermark on download.
CapCut (owned by the same company) and Clipchamp on Windows both offer 9:16 projects. On iPhone, Photos can crop to 9:16. On Android, Google Photos can crop freely. Exporting a clean file yourself means one master video you can post to every vertical platform.
Covers, text and first seconds
TikTok lets you choose a cover frame and add cover text. The profile grid shows covers at about 3:4, so central composition matters. Viewers decide within the first second or two whether to keep watching, so start with motion or a clear hook rather than a title card or a slow fade.
On-screen text added in TikTok's editor is placed and styled inside the app, which is convenient but locks it to TikTok. Burned-in captions made before upload stay with the file on every platform.
Audio considerations
TikTok's sound library includes licensed music for personal accounts; business accounts are limited to a commercial music library. If your video already has copyrighted music, it may be muted. To use a trending sound, remove the original audio with the mute tool or lower it, and add the sound inside TikTok.
Uploading from a computer
The TikTok web uploader accepts larger and longer files than the mobile apps and lets you schedule posts. Uploading from a desktop also avoids the extra compression some phones apply when sharing to apps. Export your master at 1080×1920 and upload it directly.
Duet, stitch and green screen
TikTok's duet and stitch features place your video next to or after someone else's. For duets, your video is shown at half width in a split screen, so keep subjects central and avoid tiny text. Green-screen effects replace your background with an image or video, and good lighting and a plain background make the effect cleaner. These features use the same 9:16 frame, so the specs in this guide still apply.
Exporting from common editors
In CapCut, choose 1080p, 30 or 60 fps and the recommended bitrate. In Premiere Pro, start from a 1080×1920 sequence and export with the H.264 "Match Source - High bitrate" preset. In DaVinci Resolve, set the timeline resolution to 1080×1920 vertical and use the H.264 render preset. In Clipchamp, choose 9:16 and export at 1080p. All of these produce files TikTok accepts directly.
Length and pacing
Although TikTok accepts videos up to 10 minutes in the app, shorter clips are easier to watch to the end, and completion is a strong signal. Trim pauses and repeated takes, and keep each idea brief. Longer tutorials work if every section moves quickly; consider splitting a long video into a numbered series.
One file, every platform
TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat Spotlight all use 9:16 at 1080×1920. Prepare one master MP4 without platform watermarks, with captions in the safe zone, and post the same file everywhere. Reposting a TikTok download with its watermark to Instagram is known to reduce reach there.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a TikTok video be?
- 1080×1920 pixels, 9:16.
Can I post landscape videos to TikTok?
- Yes, but they appear with bars. Crop to 9:16 for full screen.
What's the maximum TikTok video length?
- Up to 10 minutes in the app; longer uploads are possible on desktop.

Where should I put text on TikTok?
- Inside the central area, away from the bottom and the right-hand buttons.
Is 60 fps better for TikTok?
