How do you save a video from Instagram
You save a video from Instagram either inside the app (bookmark ribbon or Saved Reels— replays in Instagram only) or to your camera roll (Share → Save video / Download, or screen recording). The word "save" confuses people because both paths use similar language but produce different results. Save a video inside Instagram (bookmark)
Feed video or Reel:
- Tap bookmark ribbon under the post, or on Reels tap Save (may offer Save to collection).
- Find later: Profile → Saved (or Saved Reels section).
Save audio on Reels: Some Reels show Save audio— saves the sound for your own Reel creation, not an MP3 file on disk.
Good for: recipes you'll cook later, workouts to replay. Bad for: importing into iMovie— you need camera roll MP4.
Save a video to camera roll (official)
Reels:
- Open Reel → Share → Download / Save video.
- Check Photos/Gallery.
Feed videos:
- ⋯ → Download when listed.
Watermark: official Reel saves include Instagram branding. Expected.
File size ballpark: 30-sec Reel ≈ 10 MB; 3-min feed video ≈ 45–80 MB depending on quality.
Screen record when Download is disabled
Same as our Instagram video download guide:
- iOS Control Center → Screen Recording.
- Play video full-screen.
- Stop → trim in Photos.
Android: Quick Settings screen recorder.
Notify policy: feed/Reel screen records don't alert creators; Story captures often do.
Saved tab organization
Avoid one giant Saved pile:
- Profile → Saved → + Collection.
- Name by purpose (Meals, Gear, Editing tips).
- When saving, pick the collection immediately.
Deleting the Saved entry doesn't delete a camera roll copy— they're independent.
Extract audio after you saved MP4
Fitness creators, music snippets, voiceover tips— sometimes you want audio only:
- Save video to camera roll first.
- AirDrop or upload MP4 to desktop.
- Use extract audio from video— upload file, download MP3.
Videozify won't accept instagram.com URLs. YouTube links work on our YouTube to MP3 page instead.
Your own videos
Creators saving their backlog:
- ⋯ → Download on each post, or
- Download your information in settings for bulk ZIP.
Own content = best quality path.
Third-party apps: avoid
"Instagram video saver" APKs outside Play Store frequently carry adware. iOS sideload variants violate certificates quickly. Official + screen record covers 99% of legitimate needs.
Troubleshooting
Saved Reel won't play offline — Partial cache. Open once on Wi-Fi before a flight.
Download option on Reel but not feed video — Different permission toggles in creator settings.
Two copies in Photos — You Downloaded and screen-recorded. Delete duplicate.
Video saves without audio — Music-licensed Reels sometimes strip audio on Download; screen record may capture muted playback. Content limitation, not your phone.
