Splitting cuts one video into several shorter files. Videozify splits into 2 to 4 equal parts or into 15, 30 or 60-second chunks for Stories and Status, in your browser, and gives you a ZIP of the parts.

How to use split video

  1. Drop the video onto the box above.
  2. Choose equal parts or a chunk length.
  3. Press Split video.
  4. Download the ZIP with every part.

How split video works

Parts are cut with stream copy, so there is no quality loss and splitting a long recording takes seconds. The trade-off is that cuts snap to the nearest keyframe, so part lengths are approximately, not exactly, equal.

WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories accept short segments; 15 or 30-second chunks post in order without trimming each by hand.

Splitting is also the quickest way to get a long screen recording or meeting under an upload size limit without lowering its quality. Each part is a complete, playable MP4 or source-format file with its own header, so it opens in any player on its own.

Under the hood FFmpeg's segment muxer copies packets into a new file every time the chosen duration passes a keyframe, which is why the job is fast and lossless.

Splitting cuts one video into several shorter files.

Settings explained

If you need frame-exact cuts, use the video trimmer on each section instead; it re-encodes, so it can cut anywhere.

Choosing chunk lengths

15-second chunks match the classic Instagram Story length and are also safe for WhatsApp Status on older phones. 30 seconds fits newer Status limits and most messaging previews. 60 seconds suits Shorts and long Stories.

Equal parts are handy for uploading a long recording in halves or thirds, or for sharing pieces of a lecture with different people.

Every part keeps the original quality and format because nothing is re-encoded. Parts start on keyframes, so a cut may land a second early or late. For exact boundaries, use the trimmer on the section you care about.

The ZIP is built in your browser with all parts named in order, so they upload in sequence. Unzip on your phone before posting.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the parts not exactly equal?

Stream-copy cuts land on keyframes, usually every 1–2 seconds.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No.

How do I open the ZIP on a phone?

iOS Files and Android Files both open ZIPs natively.

Can I split a 1-hour video?

Yes, within browser memory; stream copy is light.

Is it uploaded?

No.

Is it free?

Yes.

Can I choose custom cut points?

Use the video trimmer for each section with exact start and end times.

Do parts have sound?

Yes, audio is copied with each part.

Can I split an MKV or MOV?

Yes. Parts keep the source container, so an MKV becomes several MKV files.

Why does the last part look shorter?

The last part holds whatever is left after the full-length chunks, so it is usually shorter.

Can I split on a phone?

Yes. Stream-copy splitting is light on memory and works in mobile Chrome and Safari.

Can I merge the parts back later?

Yes. Drop them into the merge tool in order to rebuild one video.

Is there a limit on the number of parts?

No fixed limit; the number of chunks depends on the video length and chunk size.
