How to save Facebook videos to your phone
You save Facebook videos to your phone with the in-app Save video button (stored in Facebook's Saved folder), by screen-recording to your camera roll, or by downloading your own uploads from Meta's Download your information export. There is no official "save to Gallery" for every public video. Third-party FB downloader apps on the Play Store and App Store are hit-or-miss and often privacy nightmares. iPhone: three ways to get FB video on your phone
1. Save inside Facebook (not Gallery)
- Open Facebook → find the video.
- ⋯ → Save video.
- Menu → Saved → Saved videos.
Good for rewatching on Wi-Fi later. Bad if you need the clip in iMovie or to AirDrop to a Mac—the file often stays in-app.
2. Screen record to Photos (real file)
- Settings → Control Center → add Screen Recording.
- Play the video in Facebook—rotate to landscape if it's horizontal.
- Swipe down → tap Record (long-press, Microphone Off).
- Stop when the video ends.
- Photos → edit → trim the status bar junk at start/end.
Size estimate: 60–120 MB for a 3-minute 1080p recording. Use Wi-Fi before syncing to iCloud Photos.
3. Your own videos — Meta export to phone
- On phone or desktop: Settings → Download your information.
- Select Videos, High quality, Create file.
- When the email arrives, download the zip on a computer (easier), extract MP4s.
- AirDrop or iCloud Drive to iPhone → Files → open in Photos if codec allows.
Android: save FB videos to Gallery
Save video (in-app)
Same as iPhone: ⋯ → Save video. Access via Menu → Saved.
Direct download (device-dependent)
While playing, tap the video for controls. Some builds show a Download arrow—more common on older Facebook versions and certain OEM skins. If you see it, the MP4 goes to Downloads or Gallery.
Screen recorder (universal)
- Pull down Quick Settings → Screen recorder.
- Play Facebook video.
- Stop recording → check Gallery or Google Photos.
Samsung: Game Tools can record without notification overlay. Pixel: built-in recorder in Android 14+.
Avoid shady Play Store "FB video downloader" apps
Many request:
- Accessibility service (reads everything on screen)
- Draw over other apps
- Excessive ads and subscription upsells
Google periodically bans them; they reappear under new names. Stick to Facebook Save + screen record + Meta export.

Storage and data tips
Facebook videos chew storage when you screen-record everything.
- A 720p screen capture uses less space than 1080p—match source quality.
- Delete the recording after you compress the video for sharing.
- On metered cellular, save in-app first on Wi-Fi, record later at home.
Low storage warning: iPhone needs ~2× file size free during Photos trim. Clear old screen recordings you don't need.
Facebook Reels on phone
Reels often lack Save video. Options:
- Screen record (vertical, full screen)
- Share → Copy link and send to the creator asking for file
- If Reel is a cross-post from Instagram, save from Instagram's allowed paths instead
