How to download pictures from Instagram
You download pictures from Instagram by saving each slide of a carousel to your camera roll, exporting your account through Meta's data download, or taking a screenshot when no save button appears. "Pictures" on Instagram means JPEG posts, multi-image carousels, meme slides, and infographic carousels—not Reels video. Videozify does not download Instagram pictures from URLs. Pictures vs photos: same thing, different search

Method 1: Save each carousel picture (iPhone)
Instagram won't batch-save a ten-slide carousel to Photos with one button. You work slide by slide.
- Open the post in the Instagram app (iOS 17/18 or Android 14).
- Swipe to the picture you want.
- Long-press the image OR tap ⋯ → Save / Download image.
- Repeat for slides 2, 3, 4…
Each saved JPEG lands in camera roll—typically 1080 px on the long edge for Instagram's compression. A crisp infographic you designed at 4000 px wide won't come back at full resolution unless you kept the original file elsewhere.
Time estimate: 10 slides × 5 seconds each ≈ under a minute. Annoying but reliable for someone else's post where download is enabled.
Method 2: Save pictures you posted
Your own carousel:
- Open the post from your profile grid.
- Sometimes ⋯ → Save to device saves the whole carousel at once (feature rolls out unevenly by region).
- If not: slide-by-slide save still works.
- Bulk backup: Download your information (see Method 3).
Creators who design carousel ads or tutorials should keep originals in Dropbox or Lightroom—Instagram is not your archive.
Method 3: Download your information (all your pictures)
When you need every picture you ever posted:
- Settings and privacy → Your activity → Download your information.
- Check Posts (includes carousel images).
- Date: All time. Quality: High.
- Submit request → download ZIP from email link.
- Unzip on a computer—images sit in dated folders as JPEGs.
A photography account with 500 posts might produce 2–4 GB in the ZIP. Search *.jpg after extract.
Method 4: Screenshot (when save is disabled)
Creators can turn off downloads on their posts. Then:
- iPhone: Side button + volume up.
- Android: Power + volume down (varies by manufacturer).
You get screen resolution, not source quality—roughly 80–90% of what you'd see on screen, plus possible UI chrome if you're not careful. Fine for personal reference. Don't repost screenshots as if they're originals.
Method 5: Bookmark (not a download)
The ribbon icon saves the post inside Instagram Collections. Useful for mood boards. Not a picture file on your phone. Half the tutorials conflate bookmark with download— they're different.
Why third-party picture downloaders fail
Paste a post URL, get JPEGs—sounds easy. Problems:
- Violates Instagram Terms for unauthorized copies.
- Sites break when Meta changes CDN tokens.
- "Login for full resolution" = password phishing.
- Re-encoded images look soft compared to even Instagram's official export.
