How to download Instagram photos

How to download Instagram photos

You download Instagram photos by saving your own posts to your device, bookmarking others' images inside the app, or exporting your account through Meta's Download your information tool. Instagram doesn't hand out full-resolution files for every picture on the platform—and Videozify doesn't offer an Instagram photo downloader. We're a YouTube and file-editing site. Here's what actually works in 2026 without handing your password to a random website.

How to download Instagram photos using official save and account export options

Three tiers of "downloading" on Instagram

GoalRealistic methodGets camera-roll file?
Your photo postsSave to device or data exportYes
Someone else's postBookmark or screenshotBookmark: no; screenshot: yes (lower quality)
DM photoSave from chat if option showsSometimes
Entire library backupDownload your informationYes (your uploads)

How to download instagram photos sounds like one action. It's really three different problems depending on who owns the image.

Your photos: save to device

If you posted it, you have the most options.

  1. Open the post on your profile grid.
  2. Tap Save to device or Download (availability varies).
  3. Check Photos / Gallery.

Carousel posts: Instagram may save only the current slide. Swipe to each image and save individually, or use the bulk export below.

Archived posts: Unarchive first (ProfileArchive), then save.

Your photos: Download your information

For hundreds of images at once:

  1. Settings and privacyYour activityDownload your information.
  2. Select Posts (photos ride with posts).
  3. All time, High quality, HTML or JSON.
  4. Submit, wait for email, download ZIP.

Inside the archive, photos appear as JPG files—often 1080px wide because that's Instagram's standard upload width. A 500-post account might yield a 2–6 GB ZIP depending on carousels and videos mixed in.

Others' photos: bookmark (not a file download)

  1. Open the post.
  2. Tap the bookmark icon.
  3. Access later via ProfileSaved.

This saves the post reference inside Instagram—not a standalone image file. Creator deletes the post? Gone from Saved too.

Others' photos: screenshot (practical fallback)

When you need a reference image and there's no official download:

  • iPhone: Side button + volume up.
  • Android: Power + volume down (varies by manufacturer).

Crop out the UI in Photos. Resolution matches your screen—on a 6.1" iPhone, expect roughly 1170×2532 pixels captured, but the image portion is smaller after crop.

Instagram doesn't notify users about screenshots of feed posts (unlike some vanish-mode DM content—different rules).

Desktop browser: limited help

instagram.com lets you view posts, but right-click save is often blocked or grabs a low-res preview. Logged-in desktop is fine for browsing; mobile app or data export beats desktop for saving your own files.

Third-party "Instagram photo downloaders"

Websites asking for a post URL or your login:

  • Often illegal for copyrighted images you don't own.
  • Top results change monthly—many are ad farms.
  • Login-with-Instagram flows are phishing. Full stop.

Videozify won't add this feature. Our tools—video trimmer, compressor, YouTube converters—work on files you upload. If you exported a Reel with photos as video, you'd compress the MP4 after export, not pull from an instagram.com link.

If your saved content includes video

Many Instagram posts mix photos and short clips. After export, you might find MP4s next to JPGs. To shrink a large clip before texting it to family, use Videozify's video compressor on the file from your computer. That's post-save editing—not Instagram downloading.

Copyright reminder (30 seconds)

Personal mood board? Different from reposting on your business account without credit. Instagram's terms and copyright law still apply. Download your own work for portfolio backup; ask creators before republishing theirs.

Conclusion

Your photos: Save to device or Download your information. Others' photos: bookmark or screenshot with permission. Skip URL paste sites.

Exported a video post too? Compress it with our free video compressor once the MP4 is on your laptop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download Instagram photos to my iPhone?

Your posts: **⋯** → **Save to device**, or export via Download your information. Others' posts: bookmark in-app, or screenshot—there's usually no official full-res download.

Can I download all Instagram photos at once?

Only **your** photos, through Download your information. No official tool bulk-downloads another account's grid.

Why is Instagram photo quality low after saving?

Instagram compresses uploads to ~1080px width. You're saving Instagram's processed version, not the original RAW from your camera—unless you still have the original in your camera roll.

Are Instagram photo downloader apps safe?

Most third-party apps are not. Avoid login requests and APKs from unknown sites. Use Meta's export for your data.

Does Videozify download Instagram photos?

No. Videozify has no Instagram integration. Use Instagram's save and export features for photos; use Videozify for YouTube or for editing video files you already possess.
