How to download a video from Instagram
You download a video from Instagram by saving your own Reel or feed post to your phone, then moving the MP4 to your computer—or by requesting a full account export from Meta. Instagram does not give viewers a universal "download this Reel" button on other people's content, and Videozify does not accept instagram.com links. We trim and compress files you already have. How to download a video from instagram splits into two worlds:

This guide assumes you want a file you have rights to—your content, a collab you're tagged on, or a clip the creator sent you in DMs with an explicit save option.
Method 1: Save to device (single video, under a minute)
Best when you need one Reel on your phone right now.
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Tap Reels or find the feed video post.
- Open the video → tap ⋯ (three dots).
- Choose Save to device or Download.
- Open Photos (iPhone) or Gallery (Android)—look for a new MP4.
A 60-second vertical Reel typically lands between 18 and 45 MB depending on motion and audio. Instagram caps upload quality around 1080p width—you're not getting your original 4K camera file back unless you kept it separately.
Collab Reels: If you co-authored with another account, save may only appear on the primary uploader's copy. Check both profiles before assuming the feature is broken.
Method 2: Move the video from phone to PC
Instagram saves locally on your phone first. Editors on desktop need a transfer step.
iPhone → Mac (AirDrop):
- Photos app → select the saved MP4.
- Share → AirDrop → your Mac.
- File appears in Downloads.
iPhone → Windows:
- Connect USB cable → trust the computer.
- Open Photos (Windows) or iTunes file sharing.
- Import the video to
C:\Users\You\Videos\.
Android → any PC:
- USB cable → enable file transfer mode.
- Browse

When you need every video you ever posted—not just today's Reel:
- Settings and privacy → Your activity → Download your information.
- Check Reels and Posts (and Stories if those matter).
- Date range: All time. Format: HTML for browsing or JSON for scripts.
- Quality: High.
- Submit → wait for Meta's email (often 6–48 hours).
- Download the ZIP before the link expires (usually a few days).
- Unzip on a computer with enough disk—a heavy creator account can produce 15+ GB.
Search the extracted folders for .mp4 files. Reels and feed videos sit in different subfolders; Windows Search or find . -name "*.mp4" on Mac/Linux saves time.
Method 4: Videos sent in Instagram DMs
Sometimes a creator sends you a file directly:
- Open the chat.
- Tap the video.
- Look for Save or Download in the corner menu.
This only appears when the sender enabled it. Disappearing messages and view-once media won't give you a permanent file. Screenshot and screen record aren't substitutes for a real download here.
