Can you download videos from Facebook?
Yes—you can download videos from Facebook in several situations, but not every video on the platform. Your own uploads, some posts with a Save video option, and anything in your official data export are fair game through Meta's tools. Random "Facebook video downloader" websites are a different story: they break terms of service, often serve malware, and Videozify doesn't offer one. "Can you" and "should you" diverge when the video isn't yours. Personal offline viewing of a family clip is a different calculus than ripping a creator's content to reupload.
Method 1: Save video in the Facebook app (when available)
On many of your own videos and some public posts:
- Open the video in the Facebook or Facebook Lite app.
- Tap ⋯ (More).
- Tap Save video or Download.
The file lands in your camera roll or Downloads folder as an MP4—typically 5–50 MB for a short clip, more for HD longer footage.
Missing button? The uploader or Page admin disabled saving, or Facebook removed the option for that content type. No setting on your phone fixes that.
Method 2: Download Your Information (your videos)
For everything you've ever uploaded—Reels, Stories saved to archive, timeline videos:
- Settings → Your Facebook Information → Download Your Information.
- Check Photos and videos (videos ride along in that category).
- Request High quality, All of my data.
- Download the ZIP when Meta emails you.
I pulled 120 GB from a creator test account this way. Slow, but complete. Videos sit in nested folders with messy filenames—sort by date modified.
Method 3: Desktop browser (limited)
Facebook's website rarely offers a clean Download for other people's videos. You might:
- Right-click on your video post if served as a direct file (uncommon now).
- Use Creator Studio / Meta Business Suite for videos on Pages you manage.
Don't expect a YouTube-style download link on every watch page. Facebook wants playback inside the app.
Method 4: Screen recording (last resort)
iPhone Screen Recording or Windows Xbox Game Bar captures what's on screen—including audio on most devices.
Tradeoffs:
- Quality capped by playback resolution (often 720p even if source was 1080p).
- UI elements and notifications may appear in frame.
- Still may violate terms if you redistribute the capture.
I only suggest this when someone sent you a private family video and explicitly said "save this somehow."
Third-party downloaders: why I skip them
Sites that ask you to paste a Facebook URL and promise an MP4:
- Violate Facebook's Terms of Service when used on others' content.
- Often inject ads, fake download buttons, or browser notification spam.
- Sometimes phish credentials ("log in to download HD").
- Break when Facebook changes its CDN URLs—which is often.

After you have the video file

Legal and practical notes
Downloading your content for backup is what Meta's export tool is for. Downloading copyrighted TV clips, sports highlights, or creator content to repost can trigger takedowns or worse. I'm not a lawyer—when money or publishing is involved, get permission.
Facebook also compresses uploads. A video you download may look softer than your original camera file if you deleted the source years ago.
